LENOX TWP. (WWJ) - Dealing with young children can be frustrating, but police say one metro Detroit step-father took his disciplining duties a little too far.
Avila Vigneau was arraigned on a felonious assault charge earlier this week in the 42-2 District Court of New Baltimore. He was released after posting a $2,000 surety bond.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said the charge stems from an incident that occurred Wednesday at a residence on Place Road in Lenox Township. Deputies responded to the home around 5:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call and were met in the driveway by 42-year-old Vigneau.
While speaking with the man, deputies learned that Vigneau was step-father to two children, ages 13 and 8. Police say Vigneau explained that he was angry with the behavior of the children, so he grabbed a household broom and struck the older child several times.
Deputies arrested Vigneau after observing bruising on the child consistent with the description of the assault.
